📄

Section 01

Overview

This Privacy Policy governs your use of the Car Camera DVR – Dashcam Android application ("App", "Service") created and developed by AppAspect Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (also referred to as "Guru Info Media", "we", "us", or "our"). The App is available on the Google Play Store and turns your Android smartphone or tablet into a powerful car DVR recorder and GPS blackbox — with no additional hardware required.

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please do not use the App.

📌 Scope This policy applies exclusively to the Android version of Car Camera DVR, distributed via the Google Play Store. It covers both the free (ad-supported) version and the Premium subscription tier. If you are using the iOS version of this App, please refer to the separate iOS Privacy Policy.
⚠️ Android Runtime Permissions Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and above uses a runtime permission model. The App will prompt you to grant each required permission when the related feature is first accessed. You can review and revoke permissions at any time via Settings → Apps → Car Camera DVR → Permissions on your Android device.

👤

Section 04

Collection & Use of Personal Information

We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it — primarily when creating a User Profile to access cloud backup and cross-device sync.

When you create a profile, we collect:

  • Display name – used to personalise your in-app experience.
  • Email address – used for account authentication and service communications.
  • Cloud-stored videos – recordings uploaded by your explicit action for secure backup.
✅ No account required for core features You can fully use dashcam recording, GPS overlay, speed tracking, HUD, and local video management features without creating a profile or providing any personal information. A User Profile is only needed for cloud backup and cross-device sync.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. Personal data collected for cloud services is processed solely to deliver those features to you.

📊

Section 05

Collection & Use of Non-Personal Information

The App automatically collects non-personal information that cannot directly identify you. This is used to improve performance, serve relevant advertisements, and analyse feature usage.

On Android, non-personal information collected may include:

  • GPS coordinates, heading, and speed (anonymously logged for blackbox overlay).
  • IP address used to connect your device to the internet.
  • Device brand, model, Android OS version, device language, and unique identifiers (GAID, Android ID).
  • Mobile network information including IMSI, MNC (carrier code — Android only), carrier name, and signal strength.
  • App usage patterns, session length, features accessed, and recording statistics.
  • ANR (Application Not Responding) reports and crash logs via Firebase Crashlytics.
  • Wi-Fi network details (SSID, BSSID, internal MAC address) for network quality reporting.
⚠️ Carrier Code Collection (Android Only) Unlike the iOS version, the Android version of this App also collects your Carrier Code (IMSI / MNC) as part of the Opensignal network quality dataset. This data is anonymised and not linked to your personal identity. See Section 12 for details.
🎥

Section 06

Camera & Microphone Access

Car Camera DVR's core function is continuous video recording. The App accesses your device camera and (optionally) microphone exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Front & Rear Camera Recording – Captures driving footage in your selected resolution (up to 1920×1080 / 1080p) and frame rate (15–30 FPS).
  • Dual-Camera Mode – Records simultaneously from both cameras when enabled in settings.
  • Background Recording – On Android, the App can continue recording even when switched to the background, using a foreground service with a persistent notification to keep the process alive.
  • HUD / Windshield Mode – Uses the front camera to display a mirrored view suitable for projection onto the windshield.
  • Audio Recording – When enabled, captures ambient in-car audio alongside video. You may disable this at any time in the App settings.
  • Video Trim & Share – Accesses stored recordings for trimming and exporting clips to other apps or services.
📌 Foreground Service Notification When background recording is active, Android requires the App to display a persistent notification in your status bar. This notification confirms that recording is in progress and lets you stop it at any time without opening the App.

All recorded footage is saved locally on your device by default and is never automatically uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly activate Cloud Video Backup via your User Profile.

📍

Section 07

Location & GPS Data

Car Camera DVR uses your Android device's GPS to power its speed-tracking and blackbox features:

  • Display real-time speed (KM/H or MPH) as an overlay on recorded video.
  • Display live GPS coordinates on video for journey documentation.
  • Trigger Speed Alerts — a notification when your speed exceeds a user-configured threshold.
  • Log journey data as part of the GPS blackbox record for potential use as evidence in incidents.
  • Provide anonymised location data to Opensignal and Huq for network quality measurement (see Section 12).
⚠️ Background Location on Android 10+ For continuous GPS logging during background recording, the App requires the ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION permission (Android 10+). Google Play requires disclosure of this use. The permission is used solely to maintain GPS data overlays during active recording sessions and is never used to silently track your location outside of recording.

GPS and speed data used for video overlay is stored locally on your device. Only the anonymised data shared with Opensignal and Huq (described in Section 12) leaves your device.

💾

Section 08

Storage Access & Scoped Storage

Car Camera DVR stores recorded video files on your device. The way storage is accessed depends on your Android version:

Android VersionStorage ModelPermissions Used
Android 9 and below Legacy external storage READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
Android 10 – 12 Scoped storage (MediaStore API) READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (read-only for other apps' media)
Android 13+ Granular media permissions READ_MEDIA_VIDEO (videos only)

Recorded videos are saved to the App's designated folder on your device storage. You can manage, view, and delete all recordings directly within the Video History screen of the App. The App does not access any media files outside its own recordings.

✅ You control your recordings Use the Instant Reset feature in the App's Statistics screen to delete all recordings at once, or delete individual clips from the Video History screen. You may also delete the App's storage folder using your device's file manager.
☁️

Section 09

Cloud Video Backup & User Profile

Premium subscribers can activate Cloud Video Backup to securely upload recorded videos to our cloud infrastructure — ensuring footage is preserved even if your device is lost, reset, or replaced.

When you use cloud features, the following applies:

  • Account Creation: You create a User Profile with an email address and display name. This data is stored securely and linked to your cloud content.
  • Video Uploads: Videos are uploaded only when you explicitly trigger backup. Wi-Fi is recommended for large files to avoid excess mobile data usage.
  • Cross-Device Access: Uploaded videos are accessible from any Android (or iOS) device where you sign into your account.
  • Data Retention: Cloud videos remain in your account until you delete them or cancel your subscription (see Section 14).
  • Encryption: All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). Cloud-stored content is encrypted at rest.
✅ You are in control You can delete your account and all associated cloud data at any time by contacting us at the address in Section 19.
📢

Section 10

Advertising

The free version of Car Camera DVR displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob requires internet access and may collect device information to serve contextually relevant ads.

On Android, AdMob may collect:

  • Google Advertising ID (GAID) — a resettable, user-level identifier used for ad personalisation and frequency capping.
  • Device model, OS version, screen resolution, and language.
  • App usage signals for ad targeting.
  • Ad impression and click events.
📌 Opt Out of Ad Personalisation on Android You can opt out of personalised advertising or reset your Google Advertising ID at any time:

Android 12+: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID
Android 11 and below: Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation

Premium subscribers enjoy a completely ad-free experience. Upgrading to any paid plan removes all AdMob advertisements from the App.

For full details on how Google AdMob handles data, please review the Google Privacy Policy.

📈

Section 11

Analytics & Crash Reporting

We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand App usage and fix stability issues. These services collect no user-identifiable information.

Firebase Analytics collects on Android:

  • App events (e.g., recording started, settings changed, feature used).
  • Session duration, screen view data, and app version.
  • Device model, Android OS version, and device language.
  • General region (not precise GPS location).
  • App instance ID (a non-personal, per-install identifier).

Firebase Crashlytics collects on Android:

  • Crash stack traces and ANR (Application Not Responding) reports.
  • Device state at the time of the crash (available memory, foreground/background state).
  • Android version and device model at time of crash.

All analytics data is aggregated and anonymised. By using the App, you accept Google's use of Analytics per the Google Firebase Analytics Terms.
